In 2018, I opened my first brick and mortar location and it was the greatest learning experience of my entire life. Even though, I spent the prior 15 years in a leadership role in a corporate environment, nothing prepared me for what was going to happen next. In addition to all of the pressures of operations driving in new customers was the daily goal in order to be successful at driving revenue. You see the formula is simple and it applies to every business…. no customers equals no revenue.
We tried and tested multiple formulas and I won’t bore you with all of them but the one that got us the most results was hosting live events. We quickly discovered that people are always looking for things to do and they want to explore your business in a different perspective. We gave the audience a safe environment to check us out without the obligation to buy anything at all.
A couple of years later, we loved the idea so much with we opened an events venue to host more events. The events that we loved the most was…. you guessed it, live free events. Folks would come in and say the same things every time. Things like…. wow, we didn’t know you guys were here or how can we book our own events here. You see, live events are a sales magnet.
So how can you do the same thing if you do not own a restaurant, event venue or brick and mortar location? It’s easy…. with your smart phone! The answer is to create LIVE events on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIN on a regular basis. Videos online generate more than 1200% more shares than pictures or text. So how can you turn your lives into events? Here are a few tips to help you get started.
Go live at the same time every week
Invite people to your lives days in advance, create flyers or posts leading up to your event
Collaborate with a colleague or client on your live event.
Give an immense amount of value on your stream.
The clients that we have trained on going LIVE have seen up to a 25% lift in new leads and clients. Potential customers want to try before the buy. Going live and creating an environment where potential clients can find you is our favorite low cost way of attracting leads!

How I Passed The 107 Part B Exam - Drone Pilots License
I've been a photographer for six years and two years ago, I picked up a drone and that completely changed my life and business. As a hobbyist, my drone was a cool toy to play with but as a photographer, I now had access to new perspectives. In order to incorporate aerial photography into my client offerings, getting my license was the next step. Taking the 107 Part B UAS Exam cost $150 and I didn't want to have to pay the FAA twice. Because of that, I hit the web and started studying. Many of my drone buddies have asked me to send over the tools that I personally used and so I've decided to make one master list.
Free Resources
FAA - Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge
Understanding Airspace - Video
Another Understanding Airspace - Video
Drone Certification Study Guide - Video
Part 107 Sample Questions - Video
If you’re in Atlanta, I recommend The Centennial Aviation Academy @ The Dekalb Peachtree Airport. You will be able to take the test within 48 hours and the staff is laid back but professional. http://www.centennialaviationacademy.com
After you take and pass the exam, you will need to apply for your license here. My physical license arrived 5 weeks after the exam. A temporary license number was provided online, three weeks after the exam.
Paid Resources
I am only recommending DLA because I personally used them as an additional resource and I passed the exam on the first try. The academy allows you to learn at your own pace, is video driven and once you purchase your membership it lasts for 5 years. This is beneficial for when it's time to renew your pilot's license in two years.
I do believe that you can pass the exam with all of the free resources but I am pleased with the platform and community at Drone Launch Academy.
Things To Bring
Magnifying glass - I’m glad I had one. Regardless of vision or age the sectional maps are hard to read on their own. Having the magnifying glass will make the map easier to read
Calculator - I didn’t have any questions that required math but many of my associates have experienced math questions in the past. The testing facility also offered me a calculator. As a reminder, you will not be able to have your phone during the test.
Start Studying
Good luck and don’t underestimate the power of studying. Having your 107 part B license has many benefits but it's going to take some work to get there. If you have any other resources that you have used, please post them in the comments below.
