Make Money Selling Domains12.02.06

Domain Sale

There are still a lot of people out there that don’t believe that you can make a decent living off of the internet. Whether it’s ebay, affiliate marketing, PPC revenue or direct sales… there are still fields of green left out there for us to forage.

Between Clickbank, Handango and Primary Ads, 2006 has been a decent year. In the beginning of the year I ventured out into new terrain, domain brokering. 11 months and 124 domains later, I finally closed on my first major domain. Although I don’t claim to be an expert, I do attribute the success of the sale to one thing…. a good game plan.

1. Consistency – Nearly 60% of the domains I purchased revolved around the same content. I followed news, blog posts and articles daily to find new insights on the specific domain subject that I was tracking. RSS Feeds are the easiest way to get news in a neat and organized format. Forums will also increase your knowledge of a particular subject from a user’s point of view. Get as much subject or product knowledge as consistently as possible.

2. Hosting – Find a good hosting company. After much trial and error, I found a favorite in GoDaddy hosting. Pretty much a 1 year private domain can be purchased for $5.99. What I love about them the most is their ease of use and forwarding capability. They provide an easy way to mask affiliate links directly into your domain name via forwarding.

3. Marketing – for free online marketing ideas, check out what our members are saying in the forum.

4. Patience – Patience is a virtue. No matter how hard it gets, keep plugging away at it. It’s that simple.

Although it’s not as spectacular as the sale of www.vodka.com for $3 million, $5000 is my new personal best for a single online transaction. It’s proof that anyone can get into the game, work hard and stack millions.

A hint: Like my PSP site, it’s also Sony related.
