San Juan Revisited01.31.07

San Juan

I just got back from a mini holiday in Puerto Rico. Stay away from the Miramar Hotel on Ponce de Leon. The complimentary wireless internet isn’t complimentary at all. What’s ironic is that in this day and age the ability to “work” would be a decision making factor when picking hotels. Funny.

5 Days Left to Get Skyped Up01.26.07

Earlier I wrote about skype changing it’s business model from free to not so free.  I just want to remind you guys that there is only 5 more days to get in at the $15 price.

It’s been a life saver for me in Puerto Rico as skype to skype calls are always free.  $15 will get you unlimited calls within the U.S. and Canada for the next year.  Here’s the catch…  it’s only for a limited time.   On February 1st, this price will shoot up to $29.99.

Try skype free...   I’m sure you’ll see that it’s worth it’s weight in internet gold!

Google Custom Placement Packs01.26.07

I’m in Puerto Rico for the next few days and I was seriously trying to avoid posting but I couldn’t help shooting this one out.  I got an email from google adsense yesterday stating that after careful review of one of my sites (not this one) that they would love to put me in the custom placement packs program.

“Custom placement packs are selections of individually-reviewed sites designed for our largest brand advertisers”

There are changes that I would have to make to the site such as changing those ads to 300×250 as well as changing the ad placement to the top of the page.

Further down in the email they do suggest that these branded ads do get more bids which in turn would bring more money but it’s something that I might have to think about.  Right now I’m just blushing that the adsense team would send me a personalized email…  or did they?
Have you other publishers received any emails regarding the placement packs?

Seo Challenge Update01.22.07

OK…   so 12 days ago I set out to put myself to the ultimate seo test.  I wanted to buy a domain from scratch, apply a little seo magic and then see how long it would take me to get to the top of google search results.

Low and behold, 12 days later and I’m number seven.   (Don’t believe it’s only 12 days old?  Click here to check domain history.)

BTW, I haven’t dropped one penny into advertising, ebooks or seo experts for hire.

Stay tuned for my next update.  Hopefully, within the next seven days I can hit the number three spot.

Ironically www.fivethingsaboutme.com is the best place to keep up with the updates ;)

In the next update I will tell you what I plan to do with the domain name once it reaches number one.

Who would of thought that the five things about me meme could actually get more interesting.   He He He.

Jack Bauer GPS Power01.15.07

What’s the odds that after being held by the Chinese government for two years and missing every Engadget and Gizmodo feed, that within 60 minutes of freedom, 7 o’clock in the morning, in Los Angeles, the first car Jack breaks into would have a charged Nextel phone, mounted to the dash and that the owner actually downloaded and subscribed to Telenav? (Gotta love that Sprint marketing)

The odds are very high, if you’re Jack Bauer. Through out the season, let’s see if we can catch any other characters using technology… or conveniently not.

Tomorrow someone please remind me to run to best buy and pick up a thumb drive for Sandra Palmer.

Am I a Cybersquatter?01.12.07

cybermoney

A few months ago I was contacted by a representative of RIM in regards to www.blackberry8800.com. After a couple of weeks, an agreement was made and needless to say RIM now has complete ownership of the domain.

Fastforward.

I contacted one of my favorite bloggers Russ over at BBhub to break the story because he was the first one to show interest in the domain name. Following the blackberry blog world closely, I saw that BBCool as well as RIMarkable also picked up the piece.

What’s funny is how the story morphed along the way.

After reading the articles as well as the comments, what do you think? Am I a cybersquatter?

4 facts…

a. The site was always fowarded to discoverblackerry.com, as it is now.

b. RIM didn’t threaten to sue me. All conversations were always very pleasant.

c. As a huge blackberry supporter, the site would have never been used for malicious intent. It most likely would have turned into a blog or a forum.

d. The only thing I’ve gotten so far is 15 minutes of internet fame on three of my favorite blogs. How cool.

Five Things About Me Seo Challenge01.11.07

So I’ve finally been tagged for this “Five Things About Me” Blog Tag meme. I said to myself that if I ever got tagged that I would make the game a little bit more interesting. I’ve decided to put my seo skills to the test. I’ll tell you more about it later. Right now I have to tell you five things about me that you don’t already know.

1. I’m completly terrified of racoons. I just don’t trust em’.

2. In 1999 I recorded the best unreleased underground rap album ever. I produced all of the tracks and all of the vocals were done by Filthy Rich, Trevor and Rugged I. The group’s name was Livetikus.

3. I was born in Westmoreland, Jamaica

4. I took the PSAT’s in the seventh grade and was accepted into their summer program. I told my parents that I didn’t want to go because I just wanted to be a normal kid. It didn’t work out.

5. I can glow in the dark…

O.k. now that I can put that behind me, let’s put seo to the test. I’ve just purchased the domain www.fivethingsaboutme.com. The challenge is to get to the top of google and to see how fast it will happen using the natural laws of seo. I want to do it using the search term “five things about me”.

Will I get any backlinks? Who knows but it’s going to be a fun test none the less.

And to give back to the community, I am going to tag five new people that I just met on MyBlogLog...

ambarxon, rexduffdixon, daveconrey, andrew wee, and roland allen... tag, you’re it.

14 Iphone Domains That You Wish You Had01.10.07

iphone

Without a shadow of a doubt, yesterday was owned by the emerging news of Apple’s iphone. I can’t say anything about the phone that hasn’t already been said but I can talk business for a moment. Most internet entrepreneurs make their money by being on the cutting edge, fate, luck, chance, hard work and sometime by timing. Most of the time it takes a combination of all of these to succeed. Imagine if 8 months ago you knew that yesterday would be the turning point of mobile phones as we know it….

Here is a list of 14 great iphone related domain names that we should have purchased 8 months ago. Only two of them are developed but for the most part the other 12 are just waiting to be monetized correctly.

http://www.iphone.com – One google ad on this page would feed my kids for life

http://www.iphonemovies.com – Apple is already in talks with paramount over movie streaming…. hmmm

http://www.iphoneringtones.com – Im sooo envious right now

http://www.iphoneforums.com – Potential goldmine. If you own this and you’re reading my post, then you’re wasting time.

http://www.myiphone.com – Excellent blog design

http://www.getiphones.com – Would make a great ecommerce site or reseller page. Does anyone make money on those godaddy parked pages?

http://www.iphonewiki.com – Someone will go there looking.

http://www.iphone3gps.com – The future of mobile video

http://www.iphoneblog.com – Speaks for itself

http://www.iphonemp3s.com – Cha ching ching

http://www.iphonemusic.com – Cha ching ching part II, duh…. it’s part ipod

http://everythingiphone.com – Chris knew what was coming months ago

http://www.iphonedownloads.com – Tech savvy people will come and they will click

http://www.iphonesucks.com – Someone will hate it and 1000’s will agree.

Is it too late to jump on the bandwagon? I’m sure it’s not. After the release of the device there will certainly be some affiliate dollars floating around.

One Week Left of Boring TV01.07.07

Jack

There are only 7 days left of boring tv. Since LOST took a break, tv has been pretty much blah over the past 6 weeks. Being one of the world’s biggest 24 fans I’ve been counting down the start to season 6 of 24.

There will be a two day four hour premiere next week. A new location and some newly added cast members will help Jack Bauer and Fox take back Monday nights.

Here is a picture of Regina King from the upcoming season.

Regina

..... and another picture of Jack fresh off of being captured last season.

The Blueprint for a great Google Adsense page01.04.07

Google Blueprint

I came across this thread over at digital point about this 21 year old entrepreneur who went from $10 per week to $800 per week in a single year.

He breaks down his strategy on proper adsense placement as well as tips on article writing that will increase your seo.

What struck out the most to me was the blue print above that he sketched out displaying his current formula for success.

I will test it out for sixth months and see if it helps me with number 6 on my list of things to do better this year!

No more free Skype, kinda01.02.07

Skype

Skype has been threatening to kill unlimited calls within the US since October of 2006. They claimed that on January 1st 2007 we would see a brand new business model. Eager to see how this company will survive the switch, I did a little research. Their site now claims unlimited calls to anyone in the US and Canada for only $14.95. Skype to skype calls are still free of course.

When I logged into my own account this morning my balance of $7.11 still stood. I figure that once it runs out they will most likely try to convert me over to their new plan. Although not free, 15 bucks is still a whole lot better than land line, cell and other voip providers such as Vonage.

Test em out for free and www.tryskype.com

It’s going to be different this year01.01.07

11 things that will make 2007 different than the rest.

1. Hit the gym way more consistently than I did in 2006. That way I won’t have to do this.

2. Read twice as many books

3. Find a way to top this vacation... or even this one!

4. Go to church more often

5. Spend more time with family and friends and less time online.

6. ....... Increase my adsense revenue

7. Try to curb my blackberry addiction

8. Save more money.

9. Blog three times as much as I did last year while staying true to #5

10. Stay away from youtube.com. It’s a time killer!

11. Focus on the things that make me the most happy.

I have a feeling that 2007 will be a breakout year for me on many different levels. I’m wishing you all the same success if you are willing to claim it.

Let the year begin!
